My name is Donette Wickham and I received my bachelor’s degree in business administration from Andrews University. Although I initially attempted to make Business my career, my experiences as a Sabbath School teacher, Pathfinder Director, and tutor for many children led me to listen to the calling to enter the teaching profession. Before pursuing a master’s degree in education administration at Andrews University, I was a grade 6-8 teacher at the Greater New York Conference. I later completed my master’s in Education Administration and Curriculum Instruction at Atlantic Union College.
After teaching grades 6-8 in Brooklyn, New York, for six years, I accepted the call to serve as principal and middle school teacher in the Mid-America Union of Seventh-Day Adventists. In 2015, I was called to serve in the Northeastern Conference and taught at the Hartford Adventist Academy until 2022. In 2022, I was welcomed into the South Atlantic Conference family and have since served as both an elementary and middle school teacher. My specialty areas are Mathematics and Language Arts, but I also enjoy teaching Bible and Social Studies.
Out of my twenty-two years as a teacher, I have spent sixteen years as a Seventh-day Adventist Christian teacher. I believe that God has been preparing me for this ministry since I was an Adventurer. My favorite text is Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Promoting Christian Education is my passion, and my greatest joy is seeing my students give their hearts to Jesus.
